Here in Southern Maryland we need to drive a while to get anywhere. This is especially true when it comes to educational programs for children. One such is held at Jefferson Patterson Park in Calvert County, MD. It is a lovely spot with a wonderful visitor center. Additionally they have many trails including one that leads to an Indian hamlet and a kayak launch trail that takes visitors to a splendid private beach.
Lately we have been attending their monthly Time Travelers program which always includes a Pre-K storytime, a craft, and a game. This week the theme was, “Lanterns During Colonial Times.”
The kids listened to a story under the shade trees, were taught how to make hand-dipped candles, and learned to play Duck, Duck, Goose.
We look forward to going every month and the educational staff there is wonderful. FYI: This program is free but you do need to reserve a space in advance.
